CNN Millennium VIEW PROJECT
PROJECT BRIEF:
CNN's landmark series, Millenium, a documentary of the past 1000 years was one of the first joint web/tv experiences. The show consisted of 10 episodes, and a new web site needed to be launched each week in conjunction with the broadcast. The wesbite needed to be accessible and seemless for users with dial-up connections. My role was to design and develop:
- concept, storyboard, design, and program 12 online editoral narratives (using Flash)
- work with writers to create effective web-friendly stories
- broadcast television promo for the web site (motion design)
- must work on 28k dial-up connections
SOLUTION:
We developed a flash solution that contained short features, interactive maps, games, and historical content. I was responsible for storyboarding, copywriting, design and development of the Flash (version 4) features each week. To achieve seemlessness for low-bandwidth, each show had an animated spot illustration acting as a staged preload delay. This also turned into an animated branding element. I also designed and animated the trailer for the website on broadcast television.
This project was profiled as one of the best the Macromedia site's and one of the few projects in their case studies section (1999) |
