Hallmark Global Branding Intranet
PROJECT BRIEF:
Audit existing sites, maintenance processes, and collateral to create a more engaging and user-friendly site.
SOLUTION:
An outside print design firm had been contracted, a year earlier, to design and develope Hallmark's gobal brand intranet site. This site was the repository of templates, logos, and guidelines for the company globally. It suffered from poor usability (framesets, for instance) and had no content maintenance system in place. It was my responsibility to analyse the current situation and propose solutions.
I recommended using Total Identity as a web based maintenance system as both the easiest and most cost effective solution to the problem. It was determined there was not an adequate budget for contracting vendors or using internal resources. Hallmark's corporate IT department could not be involved with server maintenance or programming. Those were to become my responsibilites.
I developed a process for analyzing the current site, standards manuals, and maintenance procedures. I then reacrhitected the site and pages to improve usability and fucntionality, yet, coud be implemented without redoing the entire site. I also developed a plan giving stakeholders responsiblity for maintaining aspects of this large site.
I completed the content/architecture redesign for paper user testing. I also proposed some interactive features that would engage user's interest. This include progmatic timelines and dynamic branding trees.
The documentation was helpful to the firm that was outsourced after my departure.
