Scott Bower began painting in grade school as a student of Faye Gold in Atlanta GA. Around the same time, he won a Commodore 64 by selling coupons for his soccer team, and learned how to write programs in Basic. He used his skills to load (humorous) iterative applications on public terminals in mall computer stores. He later entered graphic design through promotion and design of his garage band, Special Value, in the late 80's. Scott learned how to print through trial and error on an old 2 color Heidelberg press. He began publishing/trading fanzines which were distributed throughout local schools.

After pursuing dual tracks in physics and fine art/illustration, and, a stint as a amateur snowboarder in 1991, Scott decided to pursue Communication Design at the Atlanta College of Art. There he discovered the work of The Designer's Republic, Cranbrook, and Emigre and came under the guidance of Peter Wong (from Cranbrook's glory days). Mr. Wong encouraged Scott to always push the envelope with personal and professional work.

Since graduating, Scott has worked for numerous design studios and corporations including CNN, Elemental Interactive/Grey Global/Executive Arts, Critt Graham, Spur Communications/d3, and Hallmark. He designs print/web/motion and identities for clients such as Coca Cola, McDonalds, IBM, AT&T, Lanier (Slates, Alfani, Oscar De La Renta, and Brooks Brothers) Wells Fargo, CNN, Hallmark, Microsoft, Motorola, Avaya, Rayonier, Royal Bank of Canada, Knight Trading, and Science Skateboards (UK).

Scott's design expertise lies in the application of information theory in the development of cross media campaigns. Being well versed in interaction design methodology, he uses research, documentation, and usability best practices to design and develop artifacts across networked ubiquitous devices, cultures, and media outlets. He also enjoys translating complicated systems into fluid interactive information graphics based on experimental narratives he did while at CNN, much like the work of Xplane but with a high level of interaction. Scott believes strongly in the use of usability testing and HCI in development combined with creative visualization to reduce complexity. Most recently, Scott did UIE consulting work for the next version of CNN.com based on the research of Adaptive Path.

He also serves on AIGA Kansas City's Board of Director's, is on the Advisory Board for Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, and teaches Information Architecture and Interactive Information Design at the Kansas City Art Institute. Scott was recently added to the nominating committee for the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Awards.

Werkplace is a computational art and design guild inspired by the Vienna Secessionists, Jean Tinguely, and the work of pioneers such as Ben Fry, Golan Levin, Marius Watz, and Jared Tarbell.
